The Scorch Trials by James Dashner Book Review
Published: October 12th, 2010 by Delacorte Press
Source: Purchased
Summary (from Goodreads):
Solving the Maze was supposed to be the end.
Thomas was sure that escape from the Maze would mean freedom for him and the Gladers. But WICKED isn’t done yet. Phase Two has just begun. The Scorch.
There are no rules. There is no help. You either make it or you die.
The Gladers have two weeks to cross through the Scorch—the most burned-out section of the world. And WICKED has made sure to adjust the variables and stack the odds against them.
Friendships will be tested. Loyalties will be broken. All bets are off.
There are others now. Their survival depends on the Gladers’ destruction—and they’re determined to survive.
Review: This book pretty much starts off with Thomas and the other gladers being promised safety, food, and shelter but it is very obvious that they are going to be thrown into another mission. They are told that they have to go out into the Scorch, which is basically a super hot desert, and that they have two weeks to get to the North side where they will find this safe haven. Their incentive for getting there is to find a cure because they were also told that they have been given the flare. I really enjoyed this book from the beginning. Its much more fast paced than The Maze Runner and the short chapters keep you turning pages. I enjoyed the Cranks a lot, which are the scary monsters in this book. Cranks are people have have gotten the flare and are pretty much slowly turning into zombies and going crazy. I thought they were very creepy and it made the book really exciting. In this book we get to learn a lot more about WICKED and who they are and what their purpose is. We pretty much see what they are about and that takes away the mystery of the book. In the first book, we didn't really know what was going on at all and we had to keep guessing, but in the beginning of the this book we can sort of piece it together and I found that it made me less excited to keep reading. There were many twists and turns, some unpredictable and some that were very predictable. Overall, I did enjoy this book and will be finishing up the series by picking up The Death Cure. I would definitely recommend this series to anyone, but I would say to not go into it with very high expectations, like I did.
Rating: I give this book a 3/5 stars.
